Emigration Canada 1922 -1924
In 2023 we were proud to host a Homecoming event to celebrate and mark the occasion of the centenary of emigration to Canada between 1922 – 1924.
This event called descendants of emigrants who wished to visit the island of their forefathers to participate in this landmark celebration.
We currently have an exhibition in Barra Heritage Centre based on emigration to Canada between 1922 -1924, with a last chance to see this year.

Model Boats
We displayed model boats made by the late Neil MacDonald when he had spare time on his trips at sea, including the model of the Annie Jane. This was a common pass time for men because of their long trips whilst at sea.

Fishing Industry
Our island has deep roots in the fishing idustry, a heritage we take great pride in.
Our Silver Darlings exhibition ran from 2023 -2024.
Starting around the 10th May, they sailed from Barra all the way around the coast, followed by the gutting crew, young and old, finishing off generally at Yarmouth in December.
More information, pictures and artefacts are available at Barra Heritage Centre.
